¡Feliz cumpleaños a ... Natalia LaFourcade! (1984- )
A Mexican singer with international success, LaFourcade has won nine Latin Grammys and one Grammy (for Best Latin Rock, Urban, or Alternative Album, in 2016) as well as a host of other prizes and honors. In February of 2018 she was on the cover of Glamour Mexico, and on March 4, 2018, she will perform Remember Me at the Oscars along with Los Angeles born artist Miguel (see photos, below, and right).
LaFourcade was born in Mexico City and grew up in Coatepec, Veracruz surrounded by music and art. Her mother, María del Carmen Silva Contreras, is a piano teacher who created the Macarsi Method for Musical Training. Her father is Chilean-born musician Gastón LaFourcade. A participant in seven different documentaries, many of them about the making of her music, LaFourcade was a part of the 2010 documentary En busca del sonido del viento, in which she and four other musicians learned about and experienced the endangered Guaraní culture. In the documentary they visit the famous Igauzú Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil and create music and learn from indigenous Guaráni. In November of 2017 LaFourcade appeared on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert, and she is currently on a World Tour promoting her most recent album, Musas. Check out more on LaFourcade's official website, HERE.
