El veintisiete de febrero/February 27th
¡Feliz cumpleaños a ... Zhamira Zambrano! (1998- )
A Venezuelan singer who shot to fame on the 2016 season of La Banda (click HERE to see her audition), Zambrano and her family immigrated to the United States in 2010 to escape economic turmoil in their country (click HERE to read a Washington Post article about the crisis in Venezuela in 2010 that caused them to leave - things have only gotten worse since then). Zambrano was 12 at the time, and when she was 13, she suffered from severe anorexia nervosa. In this Univisión video (click HERE), she talks openly about the difficulty of being a young girl barraged with photoshopped images of perfection every day, and about overcoming the disease with the support of her mother. Always a singer (to the surprise of her family, since none of them sing), she went on to participate in the choir and many other activities at Ronald Reagan High School in Doral, outside of Miami (click HERE to read her profile in the local Doral paper). Though she did not win La Banda, she made it to the finals and gained many followers. She has performed a plethora of covers, including this one of CNCO's Reggaeton Lento on her YouTube channel. She posted this original love song on Valentine's Day of 2018.
