El tres de marzo/March 3rd
¡Feliz cumpleaños a ... Alfredo Alcón! (1930-2014)
The most respected actor in the history of Argentina, Alcón was a theater and film actor born in Buenos Aires. His father died when he was three years old, so his grandparents raised him while his mother worked to support the family. He recalls often going to the library and reading Shakespeare's Richard III when he was ten years old (Read more in this interview with him in Argentina's La Nación, HERE). His first movie was El amor nunca muere (Love Never Dies) in 1955, and he did 50 films after that, while still continuing to perform in the theater. He received many recognitions for his work, including the Martín Fierro Award, the Silver Condor, and the 1981 Diamond Konex Award. When he died, he was mourned publicly at the Argentine National Congress and the historic Teatro San Martín in Buenos Aires (click HERE to see press coverage of the event). In this interview with TV Pública Argentina, Alcón reminisces about his life and career. This video is a collection of clips from his many roles.
