¡Feliz cumpleaños a ... Francisco Moncion! (1918-1995)

A charter member of the New York City Ballet who danced in its productions for nearly 40 years, Moncion was born in the Dominican Republic and came to the United States with his family when he was 4 years old. He did not start his dance training until he was 20, when he was offered a scholarship to the recently established School of American Ballet, which at the time was recruiting male students. After enlisting in the Army for two years during World War II, he returned to New York to dance. He was also a choreographer himself. In later years, he lived in Woodstock, New York. He was a talented amateur painter and sometimes exhibited his work. When Moncion died, he established a scholarship fund to promote dance training for Hispanic youths.
