A Spanish-Venezuelan tennis player formerly ranked #1 in the world, Muguruza is currently ranked #7 by the WTA. She turned pro in 2012 and has since won six singles titles, including two majors (the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017). Muguruza was born in Caracas, Venezuela to a Venezuelan mother and a Basque Spanish father. She holds dual Spanish Venezuelan nationality. She began playing tennis at the age of three in Venezuela. She moved to Spain when she was six years old and began training at the Bruguera Tennis Academy near Barcelona.
