A Mexican novelist, screenwriter, and politician (she served on the Chamber of Deputies from 2012 to 2018), Esquivel wrote the bestselling Como agua para chocolate. The book was published in 1989 and turned into an award-winning film, which was distributed internationally, in 1994 (click HERE for the trailer). The book was eventually translated into 20 languages. Esquivel has written 5 other novels, all successful. She and her husband live in Mexico City.
